Multi-award-winning poet, author and arts educator Nadine Williams, is a Jamaican-Canadian who has published three collections of poetry, two children’s books and over fourteen volumes of literature for Black History Month. These creations are a staple in the curricula of several schools in Canada in celebration of Black History. She is a regular presenter at schools across Canada, including local universities and was the distinguished guest speaker to the prestigious African Writers Club at the University of Vienna in May 2019.
She is the recipient of the York Regional Police Deeds Speak Award 2014, received parliamentary mention for significant contribution to Black History in Canada in 2019, was recently named among the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women (100ABC) 2022 and in Jan 2022 she received an invitiation to exhibit her work at The Art Gallery of Mississauga.
As the resident poet for the Caribbean Consular Corps, she is vested in mentoring and supporting the next generation of authors, writers and scholars. This distinguished President’s Poet has opened for Mrs. Michelle Obama, Canada’s former Governor General,The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Prime Ministers of both Canada and Jamaica and was the proponent in the recognition and dedication of three recent significant events of the journey of Black Peoples in Canada; “The Enslavement of Africans in Canada”, “The West Indian Domestic Scheme” and George Dixon. These occurrences and person are now catalogued by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and Parks Canada as historical Canadian significant events and person. Her current project is to bring awareness to The UN’s International Decade for People of African Descent (IDPAD) through her Art installation project, “The Fabric of Our Being” as well as The International Decade for Indigenous Languages with her BHM Poster A Mi Dis-This is Me (affirming identity). This body of work is the fusion of textile art and poetry.
